The Color of the Year is… Nothing?

8 December 2025   |   Janet Barker-Evans

Pantone just named Cloud Dancer White its 2026 Color of the Year. A white so pure, it’s technically the absence of color.

Bold. Minimal. And honestly, a little confusing.

Why choose nothing when the world is bursting with everything? Maybe because in a time of overstimulation, nothingness feels like a luxury. Or maybe it’s a prompt to pause. A clean slate. A reminder that all creativity starts with a blank canvas.

And in Pantone’s world, where pigment rules, white really is nothing. No ink. No color. Just pure possibility waiting to happen.

Still, declaring “nothing” as the color of the year feels a bit like naming silence the song of the year. But here we are. Challenged. Intrigued. And maybe rethinking what creativity even means.

At ATG, we cherish creativity and know that tension is what gives great ideas their spark. Maybe Cloud Dancer is doing exactly what powerful creative work should do — making us pause, feel something, and lean in.

Leave it to Pantone to make a blank space the center of attention.
