AT Perspectives: Building Launch Momentum Starts with the Right Media Mix
Q: In the first six months of a healthcare or pharmaceutical launch, how should marketers prioritize media investments to build awareness, establish credibility and drive action?
A:
The first six months of a healthcare or pharmaceutical launch set the tone for everything that follows. During that window, the goals are clear: build awareness, establish clinical credibility, drive HCP action and generate enough patient demand to sustain long-term momentum.
Not every media channel plays the same role in achieving those goals.
Targeted digital video and Connected TV (CTV) are among the fastest and most effective ways to introduce a new brand or unfamiliar treatment category. These channels do more than generate reach. They allow brands to tell a compelling story, simplify complex healthcare concepts and create the emotional reassurance patients often need when considering a new treatment. Just as importantly, they establish legitimacy through repeated exposure in trusted, high-attention environments while creating valuable audiences for retargeting across other digital channels.
At the same time, healthcare professionals need to encounter the brand where treatment decisions are actually made. Point-of-care media reaches physicians within their clinical workflow, delivering targeted clinical evidence, treatment guidelines and prescribing reminders at moments when they are most relevant. That makes it an essential component of any launch strategy focused on influencing prescribing behavior.
Search is equally critical. Patients and healthcare professionals actively seek information during a launch, asking questions about symptoms, eligibility, clinical evidence, cost and insurance coverage. Brands that invest in paid search ensure they are visible when audiences are looking for answers.
Today, however, visibility extends beyond traditional search engines. Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is quickly becoming just as important. AI-powered search platforms are increasingly serving as the first stop for patients researching conditions and treatments and for physicians seeking concise clinical summaries. Establishing a strong GEO foundation early improves the likelihood that a brand will appear in AI-generated recommendations and trusted summaries as these platforms continue to shape healthcare discovery.
Successful launches are not built on a single channel. They come from a coordinated media strategy in which every investment serves a distinct purpose—from generating awareness to reinforcing credibility to reaching audiences precisely when they are ready to learn, prescribe or take action.
